Sandy Rodriguez (BFA, CalArts '97) was raised in San Diego, Tijuana and Los Angeles. Her installations, paintings and performance are strongly influenced by issues of place, culture and "she-roes."
This summer Rodriguez' work can be seen at Underground Gallery in Los Angeles, the 2008 Juried Exhibtion at Barnesdall Municipal Art Gallery; and in the fall at Drawing Room in Miami Shores, Florida. Selected past exhibitions include Walter Maciel Galllery, Pasadena City College, The Intersection for the Arts, High Energy Constructs, Tropico de Nopal Gallery, The Avenue 50 studio, Little Bird Gallery, Plaza de la Raza Boat House Gallery and Coagula Projects. Sandy was a founding member of the GALA Committee, whose guerrilla artworks have been exhibited at Los Angeles' Geffen Contemporary@ MOCA and at various venues throughout Europe and the Pacific Rim. The project was documented by PBS in the series Art 21. Sandy was invited to discuss her work live on the air with KPFA's Philp Mauldry on the "Morning Show" about her work in the exhibition "Terror?"
